XYZ Cooperative, a medium-sized consumer cooperative, has been struggling financially due to increased competition and a decline in member growth and engagement. Amidst these challenges, the Board of Directors discovers an opportunity to gain a significant influx of capital by accepting a large investment from a conglomerate that has faced criticism for unethical practices, including labor violations and environmental issues. The conglomerate’s investment would allow the cooperative to stabilize financially, expand its services, and potentially increase member benefits. What are the issues here?
